BAGGIES icon Super Bob will be one of the footballing heroes attending a star-studded gala in honour of Dudley’s Duncan Edwards.

The Duncan Edwards Charity Gala will be held at Brierley Hill Civic Hall on October 1, on what would have been the gifted footballer's 80th birthday.

Special guests include former West Bromwich Albion player and Manchester United Captain Bryan Robson and the youngest ever player to score a senior goal for Manchester United, Norman Whiteside.

Ex Baggies players Bob Taylor, Darren Moore and James Chambers will also be at the event, remembering the sports star whose promising career was cut short by the fatal 1958 Munich air crash.

The gala is the brainchild of Dudley born writer, producer and award-winning documentary maker Rose Monk, whose film ‘And then came Munich’ has been the bestselling sports film on Amazon for the past three years, raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process.

Her documentary will be aired on the evening, which will also include a three course dinner, performances by The Gentlemen Songsters and The Empty Can.

Proceeds of the gala will go towards The James Bulger Memorial Trust and Mary Stevens Hospice and there will be a charity auction of signed memorabilia and a raffle to raise extra funds.

The team at the Stourbridge hospice are also helping Rose to organise the event, which will be part funded through the Black Country Festival.

Tickets cost £45 and can be booked via www.marystevenshospice.co.uk.
