THE new owner of a cafe says it is a blow to have already be broken into just two months since opening the Bourton-on-the-Water business.

Slywia Gwiazda-Brokos, the owner of Piccolo Cafe in Moore Road - previously The Fudge Kettle - said the break-in has left her with a "weird feeling," and hopes the thief is caught soon.

A CCTV image of the thief who broke into the shop just after 4am on Monday, (August 22), has been released by Gloucestershire police, who are linking the incident to other burglaries in the village.

The burglar smashed through the front door window of the coffee show to gain entry, and Mrs Gwiazda-Brokos said the thief can be seen on the shop's CCTV searching the premises for 12 minutes.

"We are sure it is a woman, from the way she walked," Mrs Gwiazda-Brokos said.

"I don't think she realised we have cameras - they are hidden away.

"She looks like she was searching for a safe. We don't have one. She doesn't panic though, and then takes money from the till.

"There is a person outside with a bike, we are not sure if they are involved."

The offender, who wore a top with a hood in an attempt to cover their face, stole £100.

"Hopefully she now knows we don't keep money here overnight, so we wont be targeted again." Mrs Gwiazda-Brokos added.

"A break-in like this does cause disruption and we now have to replace the window.

"We are looking at increasing security now, more cameras.

"As there have been burglaries in the area, maybe we need more street cameras and police patrols."

Over the weekend a tanning and beauty shop on Victoria Street was also burgled, £60 being taken from a till, while a cricket club in Great Rissington was broken into after a window was the smashed. The burglar in that incident left empty handed after failing to find any cash.

Police are asking anyone who saw suspiciously activity in the area over the weekend, particularly overnight Sunday into Monday, to call them on 101, quoting incident 110 of August 22.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
