FOLLOWING the devastating fire at Hickory’s Smokehouse in Wall Heath this morning, the A449 Kidderminster Road will continue to be closed well into this evening (Thursday, August 25).

The severe fire broke at about 2.30am this morning, and at its highest more than 100 firefighters from across the West Midlands were on the scene battling the flames.

A number of crews are still on the scene working to contain the incident to the main smokehouse building, meaning roads surrounding the building are closed.

The Kidderminster Road is shut between Lodge Lane and Wolverhampton Road, with diversions in place on Lodge Lane, Summerhill, Moss Grove, Wolverhampton Road and vice-versa.

A Dudley Council spokeswoman said: “Latest information is that it is likely to be closed well into the evening so drivers are advised to seek an alternative route where possible.”

Fire investigators will try to establish the cause of the fire once the fire is entirely out, but a fire service spokesman said they are unlikely to give a clear indication until tomorrow morning (Friday, August 26).
