FORMER American diner Detroit's will be transformed into a new family restaurant.

The owners of Brown's at the Quay, on Quay Street, are currently working on plans for a "casual" restaurant at the prominent location on the corner of Castle Street.

Jessica Pinches, who runs Brown's, confirmed the Pinches family was finalising plans for a "big spend" on creating a new restaurant.

She said: "We are still in the final stages of negotiations and it will be part of our food brand.

"It will be a casual, dining experience aimed at families.

"It's right next to the racecourse and it's an iconic part of Worcester.

"Brown's has the Cathedral and this will have the racecourse.

"When people ask why, it's because this is a great location.

"We hope to make the outside area bigger so you can sit there and have lunch or dinner overlooking the racecourse."

She said she hoped to be able to outline the plans in more detail and launch the restaurant's new name next week.

As well as Brown's, the Pinches family run Bushwackers in Trinity Street and Sin in New Street, along with another Bushwackers nightclub in Birmingham.

Brown's also has a sister restaurant called The Daffodil in Cheltenham.

Advertising boards went up this week outside the former Detroit's restaurant which were promoting events for fresher's week at Bushwackers and Sin.

However, Mrs Pinches said the new restaurant would be food only and would look to open from noon until around 11pm.
