AN autistic woman who completed a gruelling cycle challenge has handed over donations to the charity which supported her.

Louisa Summers gave a cheque for £525 to Eric Kent, fundraising support officer at National Autistic Society, after cycling from Weston-Super-Mare to Worcester.

Miss Summers, who lives near Shrub Hill, cycled over 100 miles and took two days to complete.

When she revealed in the Worcester News she was just £53 away from her £500 total, kind-hearted readers boosted her fundraising to exceed her target.

Mr Kent said: "National Autistic Society supports people with autism and their families and we rely on people like Louise to help us to provide that support.

"We are so grateful for her hard work and she should be proud that she raised such a fantastic sum.

"We have a free helpline which costs the charity £1.50 each time and we got 65,000 people trying to call last year.

"It's a struggle to answer them all.

"But when someone calls they are very vulnerable so Louise's fundraising will mean we can answer the phone to 350 people."

Miss Summers is planing another fundraising challenge next year and will do a four-day trip between Dover and Brighton.
