STOURPORT and Bewdley fire stations are to be axed after chiefs have agreed to press ahead with their controversial central Wyre Forest Emergency Services Hub.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service's Fire Authority met this morning (October 11) and gave the green light to the £5.9 million facility.
The hub will see the two Kidderminster crews and the retained Stourport and Bewdley stations relocated to one site – which would also house police, ambulance and voluntary organisations.
But, Fire Brigade Union chiefs have slammed the decision, arguing it would increase response times by two-and-a-half minutes putting lives of residents and firefighters "at risk".
