REMEMBRANCE Sunday commemorations in Bromsgrove will see the Worcestershire Deputy Lord Lieutenant in attendance.

The parade on Sunday, November 13, will begin at 10.40am on High Street, heading past the Odd Fellows Memorial, right into Church Street, and crossing Market Street to Church Close.

It will then proceed to the monument on Crown Close, ahead of the service start at 10.50am and the act of remembrance at 11am, where after wreaths will be laid.

The Bromsgrove branch of The Royal British Legion (RBL) is urging anyone wishing to take part in the parade to gather at the top of High Street, outside Argos, at 10.20am.

For just the second time in the branch’s history, the Worcestershire Deputy Lord Lieutenant will also join the service, with Mrs Georgia Britten-Long confirmed to attend the parade.

Speaking of her visit, Patrick Smith, chairman, said: "It is a great honour for the people of Bromsgrove to be recognised twice during the remembrance period of the First World War."

Amphlet Hall will be open for people to use the facilities or to watch the parade from inside.

The service should finish at noon with wreaths laid at memorials within St John’s church.

A Remembrance Function will also be held after the service at the Millfield Social Club on Millfield Road, which includes a buffet, refreshments and a raffle.

Entertainment will be provided by 1940s style singer Annuska Elliot, who will travel from Cornwall to sing songs from the Second World War as well as current hits.

Nationally, the RBL launched a campaign called ‘Rethink Remembrance’ urging the public to recognise the sacrifices made not just by the Armed Forces of the past, but by those involved in the most recent conflicts too.

Director of Fundraising at The Royal British Legion, Claire Rowcliffe, said: "Individuals and families from across the generations of our Armed Forces community need the Legion’s support, as well as our older veterans.

"When you pin on your poppy, or pause to Remember, we’re inviting you to Rethink Remembrance and rethink who it is you picture when you think of a veteran.

"The Royal British Legion’s vital work wouldn’t be possible without the public’s generous support, and we hope through our campaign this year we will help people understand who they are supporting when they donate.

"Please wear your poppy with pride in recognition of all generations of the British Armed Forces who have served to defend the freedom we enjoy today."
