IT has been a wet start to the week in Worcestershire with heavy rain causing flooding across Worcestershire.

While the county has not currently been issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain like Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, the county will be hit by showers.

Latest forecasts suggest 20 to 40mm rain, much falling in a short time.

By 10am this morning, West Mercia Police had already received reports of trees falling down on the B4091 in Stoke Prior and another in Holy Cross Lane, Clent.

There have since been reports of flooding by Sanders Park on the A448 Kidderminster Road, which is reportedly forcing drivers to drive in the middle of the road.

Perryfields Road is also said to be flooded, as well as the roundabout on the A38 near Morrisons, where police are currently in attendance.

Flooding is causing delays across the county and drivers are being warned to take extra care on their journeys home.

The Environment Agency is not expecting large rivers to respond significantly as a dry October has meant they have capacity to take the heavy rain.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell, from Worcestershire Police who chairs Worcestershire's Emergency Planning Group, said: "We have been made aware through our Met Office and Environment Agency colleagues that there will be significant rain.

"Please take care and remember not to drive through standing water where it's depth is unknown."

David Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, urged people to take extra care and not to enter flood water either on foot or in vehicles.
