DOGS trust staff have swapped dogs for poetry to help their rehoming efforts.

Dogs Trust Evesham are trying to find four-year-old terrier Diago a home and written him a poem for Burns Night in honour of the poet Robert Burns.

Diago has been at the rehoming centre since November 2016 can be worried by the world but is affectionate once he gets to know his surroundings.

Claire Buglar, training and behaviour advisor at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “Diago is a lovely lad who really deserves to find happiness in a new home.

"He has been with us for some time and we have been helping to prepare him for the day that he finally finds his forever home.

“He would be best suited to a quiet environment with not much going on whilst he finds his feet and re adjusts back to home life.

"Once he gets to know you, he is an affectionate lad who quite likes a fuss and sofa time. He loves his food, which will be a way to help build a bond.”

Diago needs a home without any other pets or dogs and with adults only.

The dogs trust will be available to assist before, during, and after his adoption to help him adjust into his new surroundings.

Diago's poem was:

Will today be the day?

I’m here waiting…wishing…

For you.

Will you come?

I know I’m not young.

And I’m not exactly pretty.

My past has left wounds

Deeper than mere skin.

I have nothing really to offer.

Just three little tings are mine: my heart, my soul, my life

But all have to give

I give entirely.

I’ve dreamed of meeting you.

My Special One, my soulmate.

The one who can fill my life with meaning.

And mend my broken heart with love.

So I’m here, trying my hardest to be good.

Come find me soon!

I’ll be waiting, wishing…

For you.
