TRAVELLERS set up camp on two public car parks in Oldbury in two days.

Yesterday (Sunday) A large convoy of caravans drove onto West Bromwich Street car park, near the council house, and today a smaller group gained entrance to the Portway Lifestyle Centre's car park.

Workers at Sandwell Council were forced to find alternative parking arrangements this morning after being unable to use the West Bromwich Street car park.

In a memo to workers on Facebook a spokesman said: "A large number of caravans have set up an unauthorised encampment on the West Bromwich Street".

"Bailiffs will be on site, but the car park will remain closed to vehicles until the eviction takes place.

"We'll let everyone know once the car park re-opens."

The travellers had left the West Bromwich Street site by 1pm today (Monday).

However, Sandwell Leisure Trust tweeted this afternoon: "Please be aware there is currently significant disruption from unauthorised access to the car park at Portway Lifestyle Centre.

"The centre is open as normal, but please allow extra time and consider using alternative parking where it is safe to do so."
