A COUPLE who vowed to make sure every child in Redditch has access to vital life-saving equipment have made the finals of the Heart Hero Awards run by British Heart Foundation.

Robert and Maggie Underwood from the charity Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation have been nominated for the Inspiration award (Midlands area) - for involving and inspiring others in the fight for every heartbeat.

The pair undertook the mammoth challenge to try to make every child in Redditch safe after not one but two tragic deaths in the family.

And last year they donated a defibrillator to Holyoakes Field First School - the last school in Redditch to receive one.

Incredibly, the pair originally set out to donate just one defibrillator.

But almost 200 later they are still going strong and more busy then ever.

Speaking about the nomination for the award, Rob said they were both "totally surprised".

"We cannot thank the kind person or persons for nominating us. We hope we can win, but never expect to win.

"If we do, it will be all in memory of Charlotte and Craig."

He added: "To be honest we don't see ourselves as inspirational, the inspirations are Charlotte and Craig."

The couple will find out if they win in September.
