THE five would-be MPs who will do battle to win the Wyre Forest seat in June's snap General Election have been officially announced this afternoon (Thursday, May 11).

The deadline for nominations passed at 4pm today (May 11) and the candidates were confirmed by Wyre Forest District Council.

For the past seven years, the seat has been held by Conservative Mark Garnier - who will once again battle to keep his seat for the third time, after he was voted in for a second term in 2015 with a majority of almost 13,000.

The full list of candidates is as follows:

Brett Caulfield - Green Party

George Connolly - UKIP

Mark Garnier - Conservative

Matthew Lamb - Labour

Shazu Miah - Liberal Democrats

Former MP Dr Richard Taylor and Health Concern party chairman Linda Candlin announced last month that they would not be contesting the parliamentary seat, choosing to focus on local issues instead.

Residents in Wyre Forest will go to polls on June 8.
