A JEDI dressed man visited the county for the Worcestershire leg of his gruelling thousand mile walk.

Daryl Haynes, from Pershore, is raising money for three charities by trekking from John O'Groats to Lands End over 59 days.

The Royal Navy police officer who lives and works in Scotland will travel 1080 miles and was walking from Worcester to Tewkesbury on Saturday.

He is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

Mr Haynes, whose Jedi name is Jedi Jogle, said: "My gran died last year, and I wanted to raise money for charity by doing this walk.

"I had already decided to do the walk but I wanted to stand out by dressing as a Jedi, Star Wars is quite in at the moment and I love Star Wars.

"I got the costume relatively cheap and the lightsaber was made by a nice woman who makes them for a living.

"The Rainbow Trust do great work helping children with life-limiting disease, Macmillan helped my gran a lot when she had cancer before she passed away.

"As I am in the navy I wanted to support the marines charity as they support serving and ex-sailors and marines."

Mr Haynes started at John O'Groats on April 1 and hopes to finish on Monday May 29.

Talking about coming back to Worcestershire, he added: "I come back every two or three months but it is particularly nice to be able to have some home cooked food rather than eating from a stove.

"A couple of friends are joining me today as well so it's nice to see friends and family whilst I am here."

The journey works out at around 17 miles a day and he is hoping to raise £10,000.
