A CLEAN up operation has been taking place on a Worcester car park after travellers left the site.

Around eight caravans and campervans originally moved onto the site in April, then more arrived, and there been a presence on the site for around six weeks.

When they originally arrived a Worcester News reporter spoke to one of the group, who did not want to be named, who said they were not sure how long they were going to stay.

At one point the group moved from one side of the car park near Pitchcroft, to another part next to Croft Road.

One Worcester resident, who wanted to stay anonymous, said: "It has been horrendous - there has been so many issues.

"The council has been out to see them everyday, talking to them, and now they are cleaning up the mess that has been left."

A year ago travellers set up camp on the same car park, after being moved on from Pitchcroft car park by the city council's legal department.

After leaving, council workers went out to the site on Friday morning and cleaned up the rubbish on the car park, which included two generators, a gas cannister, plastic bottles, clothing and shoes, and food and drink.

A spokesman from Worcester City Council said: "The city council’s civil enforcement team inspected Croft Road car park.

"We have been in regular contact with the travellers, and were aware that a generator would be left behind.

"The travellers bagged up additional rubbish before they left.

"Our staff clean the Croft Road car park, which is visited by hundreds of drivers and passengers every day, on a regular basis.

"It is therefore not possible to directly attribute the relatively small number of items being removed in these photos, to any group of individuals."
