A RESIDENT has described herself as 'appalled' after council chiefs have failed to fix what she describes as a 'dangerous' footpath.

Vanessa Champken, of Humber Road in the Ronkswood area of Worcester said that she has asked the county council to fix the problem on two separate occasions but to no avail.

Ms Champken said that her mother twisted her foot walking along the surface on Thursday and she is surprised nothing has been done to fix it.

She said: "I am appalled that the council have not done anything to fix the pathway, I spoke to them both in August of last year and March of this year but they said that it is not a problem.

"I haven't seen anyone come out to look at it at all to see if it is safe."

Whilst she has not seen any serious injuries on the pathway, she added: "There are a lot of elderly people around this area and it is a trip hazard, yesterday (Thursday) my mother twisted her foot on the path."

Cllr Alan Amos, cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: "The footway in this location was inspected in March and in May of this year, and on both occasions no immediate safety issues were identified.

"Highways are aware of the general condition of the footway and this location is on a list of similar footways which will benefit from future resurfacing works.

"We know that pavements are important to residents, which is always reflected in feedback, and pedestrian safety on pavements is a main priority.

"This is why the county council is investing an additional £6million this year to improve the quality of footways across the county."
