A GROUP of local volunteers have been praised after completing a course which will allow them to help other parents across the borough.

They were recently presented with certificates by Redditch Councillor Joe Baker after completing a peer support and volunteer induction course with the council’s parenting and family support service.

The volunteers completed the eight week programme to enable them to start their volunteering journey with the parenting service.

During the course, participants covered a wide range of subjects including communications skills, body language, confidentiality, assertiveness, learning styles, understanding the community and much more.

Going forward the participants will now take on placements, volunteering alongside qualified practitioners from the service who deliver a range of courses to parents across Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Cllr Baker, whose portfolio covers young people and community centres, said: “These volunteers are so important in assisting our services and I was very pleased to present these certificates to such an enthusiastic group of people.

"It was clear that they were all very keen to get out and start helping other parents and I am sure that this course will stand them in good stead for the future.

"I would like to wish all of them the best of luck.”
