KIND-hearted volunteers in Wyre Forest are being sought by the Kidderminster Foodbank to help with a food collection at Tesco this week.

The collection which will help support local people this Christmas will take place at the Tesco Superstore, in Castle Road, from Thursday (November 30) until Saturday (December 2).

Volunteers will be in the store between 9.30am and 5pm on all three days.

The annual Tesco Food Collection is a nationwide scheme in Tesco stores across the UK, in partnership with leading food charities FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

The collection will see Tesco customers encouraged to donate long-life food to help foodbanks and community groups support people in need this Christmas. Tesco will top up customer donations by 20 per cent to further support the two charities.

Kidderminster Foodbank, which is based in Baxter Church Hall in The Bull Ring, is part of the the Trussell Trust network and are calling for volunteers to hand out shopping lists to customers in Kidderminster Tesco and answer any questions.

Maureen Lewis, Kidderminster Foodbank manager, said: "It is easy to make a difference.

"We will do all we can to provide emergency support so local families hit by something unavoidable, like illness, redundancy or a boiler breaking, don't go hungry this Christmas.

"However, to make sure we are fully stocked ahead of our busiest month of the year, we need your support.

"The more people there are volunteering with us at the Neighbourhood Food Collection, the more food we can collect and the better prepared we will be to provide support to people who would otherwise face hunger this Christmas.

"In previous collections we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community in helping us to help local people - we would love to have as much support again this December."
