A TEENAGER has pleaded guilty to dealing drugs after police found 56 grams of cannabis and more than £2,000 in cash during a raid on his home.

Joshua Jones, aged 18, of Ramsons Close in Malvern, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a controlled class B drug at Worcester Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday, January 18).

Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, said that police officers had executed a search warrant at Jones’ address on June 13 last year, following concerns about the smell of cannabis “emitting” from the property.

She said: “He was asked by the police about what was going on and in response to that he said he had drugs in his bedroom upstairs.

“He then took the officer to that room, which contained a large amount of cannabis. A further amount of cannabis was recovered as well as a quantity of cash and a number of mobile phones.”

In total, £2,098 was seized as well as 56.2 grams of cannabis worth about £560, and a further two large cannabis bags with drugs worth £240 was also discovered.

When asked about the mobile phones by the police during interview, Jones admitted that they should be examined and that officers would find evidence on them consistent with drug dealing.

However, Jones refused to tell police who he was involved with regarding drug dealing.

The court heard that Jones, who has no previous convictions, was selling the drugs to friends and others to fund his own habit.

He had admitted using three or four grams of the drug, about £40 worth, each day.

Magistrates gave Jones credit for his early plea and co-operation with police and said that would likely be a factor when sentencing him.

But, they said that they didn’t have the powers, as magistrates, to sentence him to a sufficient punishment.

He was granted unconditional bail and is now due to appear to Worcester Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, February 16.
