A YOUNG man who aggressively swore at a police officer following a fight outside a Droitwich pub has been fined.

Dalton Griffiths was spotted by police officers waving his hands in the air outside the Star & Garter in High Street, Droitwich, on December 29 last year.

Officers were called to the scene following concerns being raised by residents living above the pub.

Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, said: “Police officers were called after about 9.15pm in the evening to reports of a number of males fighting in the street.

“The officer says when he arrived there was a group of four of five males waving their arms about, down a side road and also next to the public house.

“The officer asked the defendant to stop so that he could speak with him.”

But the court heard that Griffiths swore at the officer instead and so he was arrested.

CCTV footage caught Griffiths punching out at people.

During interview, Griffiths told police he was ashamed of his behaviour – when CCTV footage was played back to him he was embarrassed.

The 22-year-old, who represented himself, said: “I would like to, first of all, apologise for wasting your time and efforts.

“I am really ashamed about it – I had too much to drink.

“It was out of character. I have turned my life around – I have a good job and a baby on the way.”

Griffiths, of Blackwood Road, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive words, behaviour or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday, January 18.

He was fined £320, ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Magistrates ordered him to pay back the first £100 within 21 days of the hearing.

The offence took place on December 29 last year.
