A YOUNG man has been fined after he smashed an Evesham pub window while attacking two musicians who were performing on New Year’s Eve.

Jack Lowe, aged 21, of Fairfield Road, had been drinking a combination of Carling and vodka at the Red Lion Pub in Market Place before the unprovoked attack.

Sarah Brady, defending, said Lowe, who has ADHD, had gone to the pub for a drink with his mother and had become upset by something but, following the attack, he could not remember what that was.

During the assault, a speaker was smashed through a window, the court heard.

Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, read out victim impact statements from victims Keith Boulton and Kevin Spittle.

Lowe’s attack on Mr Spittle damaged his lower back and his electric guitar, which is worth £1,000, as he fell to to the floor.

In the report, Mr Spittle said: “He tried to grab me and I fell backwards.”

His PA system was also smashed into the window during the attack.

Mr Spittle added that Lowe “aggressively shoved” the speaker, which he described as “large and heavy”.

Mr Boulton said he had “twisted” his back trying to avoid being hit by the speaker and suffered grazing to his chest.

The court heard that Lowe, who is currently receiving Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), was looking to find a job after serving time in prison.

He had brought to the hearing certificates, including a number of qualifications earned whilst in custody.

Lowe pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court to two counts of assault by beating and two counts of criminal damage, on Thursday. Magistrates awarded £600 compensation to the The Red Lion pub and £100 compensation to both Mr Spittle and Mr Boulton. Lowe was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Magistrates said they had insufficient information on the damage to the PA and guitar to award compensation.
