DELIGHTED pupils and staff from a Wyre Forest school are celebrating being the ‘the best they can be’ after being awarded an ‘Outstanding’ inspection grade.

A Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist schools (SIAMS) saw Bayton Church of England Primary School receive the top rating after a visit on March 8.

The school was praised for its ‘inclusive ethos’ with a strong emphasis on teamwork and community spirit. The teaching of tolerance, respect and compassion regardless of background or religion has been identified as clear upheld values the school.

SIAMS also acknowledge the school’s strong motto ‘Be the best you can be - as a child of God’ as a message ‘firmly embedded in all aspects of the work of the school and forms the foundation for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all learners.’

The encouragement of pupil’s personal growth was also noted in the inspection with teachers assigning them roles of responsibility to make them feel part of a team.

SIAMS outlines that children participate enthusiastically with school activities such as singing and worship and can confidently articulate Christian teachings central to the school community.

The report also commended the leadership of the recently appointed Head Teacher Jolanda Simmonds, regarding her as a ‘catalyst’ for the school’s reaffirmation of its ‘distinct’ Christian identity.

Jolanda Simmonds said: “I am thrilled with the outcome and especially that the inspectors could see the huge journey our school has been on.

“The children were wonderful on the day and showcased our school superbly, speaking articulately about RE lessons, our school values and how we show these every day within our school.

“They have continued to show real teamwork and it’s a pleasure to work alongside them in improving the education of all our children.”

She also gave thanks to dedicated staff community who work in “challenging situations” and the school’s Governing Body for their close support.
