SIR – RE Here Be Dragons, the Worcestershire Museums object in your Weekend supplement (April 14).
The tile in question was probably a Red Dragon, not a Wyvern.
Many historians believe that when the Romans left Britain many stayed to protect what they had fought for.
The leader is believed to be Artos the Bear, protecting Britain from the Anglo Saxons who raided the island constantly.
Artos fought and died under the battle flag of the Red Dragon.
Legend mixed with History and Artos became King Arthur, thanks to Malory and Geoffrey of Monmouth.
Later the Welsh adopted the Red Dragon banner. Most famously Henry Tudor, later Henry VII fought Richard III at Bosworth Field. The Red Dragon killed the White Boar (Richard’s emblem).
