A KIDDERMINSTER couple’s bid to win a dream wedding and honeymoon will be broadcast on national TV this weekend.

Samantha, 26, and Matthew Petchey, 31, who live on Worcester Road, went head to head with another hopeful couple for an episode in BBC One’s brand new series ‘Wedding Day Winners’.

Both couples got married in October – when the episode was filmed – but viewers will see who took home the coveted top prize when the programme airs on Saturday (August 18) night.

Samantha, a PE teacher who works at Wollescote Primary School in Stourbridge, and Matthew, who works as an NHS advisor in Dudley, battled it out for a grandiose wedding and a host of other extravagant prizes.

The two have been together for six and a half years and met each other at Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics club.

The couple, along with their family and friends, took on physical games and wacky challenges in a race to win the luxury wedding ceremony and dream honeymoon. The winners’ ceremony also featured prominently on the show.

The unlucky family didn’t get completely left at the game show altar, as they still walked away with a runner-up prize to boost their special occasion which will be shown as a snippet during the end credits.

Samantha and Matthew applied to take part in ‘Wedding Day Winners’ last June, and the show were quick to get them on board.

Samantha said: “We only completed three quarters of the application, then the show gave us a ring.”

She said: “It was a great once in a lifetime experience.

“It’s definitely a story to tell our children – whenever they arrive.”

Matthew said audiences can expect laughs and surprises, with a bit of wackiness thrown in.

He said: “We are grateful to our friends and family for taking part.

“Some really put themselves out of their comfort zones for us, as you will see on Saturday.”

The programme is hosted by Loraine Kelly and comedian Rob Beckett.

The episode also features a host of celebrity guests including singers Lemar and Mark Feehily from Westlife, celebrity chef Rustie Lee, magician Ben Hanlin and comedian Tom Allen.

People can see if the Kidderminster lovebirds scooped the top prize on Saturday August 18 at 5:15pm.
