A GYM owner stopped a car from hurtling down a hill by giving police officers free weights to put under its tyres.

The fitness fanatic jumped into action after a car rolled into another vehicle outside his gym in Edith Walk, Malvern, on Tuesday.

Joshua Small, aged 39, owner of the OneSpace Fitness, said: “Someone’s handbrake wasn’t fully applied or possibly failed and it rolled forward into another car.

“The driver of the car that was hit had to leave but obviously couldn’t because the car behind would roll down Edith Walk.

“He called the cops for assistance and I offered a few weights to wedge under the car’s tyres while he moved his car.

“Once he got out the way, the cops put their car in front as a blocker in case it rolled forward over the weights. Then I think they called a recovery truck, which towed the car away.

“It could have been pretty bad if there was no car parked in front. I’ve seen a couple of cars roll down that hill over the years.”

West Mercia Police thanked Mr Small for lending his dumbbells to officers, after the car crashed into another vehicle at around 7pm.
