THE case of a man alleged to have dangerously drove a car into a city house, has been adjourned for two weeks.

The Worcester News reported on the crash in which the Audi smashed into the Battenhall Rise home of the Beattie family in March.

The crash, which happened at around 10pm on Friday, March 23, led to Mel Beattie and her 15-year-old daughter Tash being seriously injured.

Naveed Hussain, of Wylds Lane, spoke only to confirm his name during a short hearing at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Hussain had been charged with driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or a public place, without due care and attention.

The 26-year-old was also charged with failing to stop after a road accident.

But prosecuting Nicola Ritchie told magistrates that just before the hearing it had emerged the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) now wanted to change the driving without due care and attention charge, to the more serious one of dangerous driving.

Miss Ritchie made a joint application, with defence solicitor Paul Stanley, that the case be adjourned so that CPS could review the case, and for the defence to see further evidence relating to the new charge.

Magistrates granted the adjournment, with the case now set to go ahead on Thursday, August 30.

Hussain was given unconditional bail.
