LUDLOW Town Council has engaged the Morton Partnership as the conservation accredited Structural Engineer for the development stage of works to the town wall to the north of St Laurence’s Churchyard.
The Morton Partnership will advise on competitive tenders, potential grant assistance and liaise with Historic England.
Ludlow Town Council is also receiving advice and assistance from Ludlow Town Walls Trust.
“This is an important step forward for the Town Council and we will work with partner organisation Historic England and St Laurence Parochial Parish Council to ensure we meet the all the heritage and faculty requirements for the restoration of the Town Walls scheduled ancient monument,” said Tim Gill, mayor of Ludlow.
The historic Ludlow Town Walls have been causing increasing concern and there have been a number of minor collapses, one of which resulted in people having to be moved out of their homes in the Upper Linney for a short period whilst checks were carried out.
Work has already been undertaken on a section of wall at the back of the town centre car park.
The walls are listed and repairs have to be carried out in accordance with strict requirements and these include the use of lime mortar.
This special mortar can only be used during a very limited period of the year in the summer restricting when work is done.
