A FORMER health minister has paid tribute to the importance of care workers

Philip Dunne MP for Ludlow, praised the important role care workers perform in the South Shropshire community, on a visit to Field House Care Home in Church Stretton.

Mr Dunne visited Field House as part of Care Home Open Day 2018.

The event, now in its sixth year, aims to reinforce connections within local communities and showcase the excellent care being provided by care staff across the UK.

Claire Harris, Manager at Field House, has just been awarded Barchester Care Home’s Outstanding Leadership Award (April 2018), from their 200 homes across the country.

During his visit, Mr Dunne also met resident Gwen Willcott, who was celebrating her birthday.

“I am very grateful to Field House Care Home for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to meet staff and residents, to hear stories about the kindness and compassion shown by care staff on a daily basis,” said Philip Dunne.

“With 27 per cent of south Shropshire residents over retirement age, and increasing longevity, the need for good quality care in south Shropshire is clear.

“So my visit today as part of Care Home Open Day 2018 is a good opportunity to highlight the positive impact of care in the community.”
