HEAVY snow descended on the Vale and the Cotswolds, with up to 10 centimetres falling over the weekend.

Schools across the Vale and Cotswolds were forced to close due to the cold snap, which also affected local businesses.

Most schools in the area were forced to close on Monday and Tuesday, with some still remaining closed on Wednesday.

EVESHAM United's Evo-Stik Southern League Division One West match at home to Swindon Supermarine was postponed due to the snow on Monday, with Wychavon District Council and Cotswold District Council forced to delay bin collections.

Both councils resumed bin collections on Wednesday after missing Monday and Tuesday.

The cold snap has also seen dozens of readers send their best snap to us, with Journal photographer Paul Jackson also out and about taking pictures of the winter scene.

Across Worcestershire, approximately 3,000 tonnes of salt were spread in total to help pedestrians.

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member responsible for Highways, said: "Our teams have been fantastic.

"They've had to get out there and work in some pretty treacherous weather conditions to make sure the rest of us can travel on the roads and stay as safe as possible.

"They are doing a great job and long may it continue.

"People who live and work in Worcestershire can be really proud of our teams who have kept people moving and that can't be said of other areas of the country."

The drivers, mates and supervisors worked a total of 2,376 hours over the weekend in Worcestershire.
