ORGANISERS of the hugely popular Bewdley Duck Race are preparing for the great event on Easter Monday.

Kidderminster and district Lions Club host the fun race and it is a major fund raising event in their calendar.

They are also keeping a close eye on the river levels to make sure the race can be run safely and avoid another cancellation.

The race had to be cancelled on New Year’s Day because the river was too high for members of the Wyre Forest Canoe Club to go on the river to collect the plastic ducks.

It is important that the ducks are collected to avoid pollution of the river downstream.

The race is expected to start around 12noon although people are urged to come along and register their ducks earlier in the morning. Bewdley Bridge will be closed from 11.30am for an hour.

Bewdley Town Council has also arranged a “Make It or Bake It” special market on the day to complement the race.
