THE festival commemorating the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Evesham will take place next year.

The Battle of Evesham 2015 event was launched earlier this year at All Saints Church in Evesham but has now got the official go ahead.

Since the launch night organisers have been securing sponsors for the festival, set to take place over two weeks, culminating in a weekend battle re-enactment on August 8 and 9.

So far Evesham Town Council have pledged £20,000 towards the event, which has also been backed by Wychavon District Council.

And on Monday, November 24, more than 40 traders from across the Vale met with organisers for a presentation evening in Evesham to hear how local businesses can get involved.

Antonia Coles, festival organiser, said: "It really was a delight to see business owners starting to get behind the 750th anniversary celebrations and how it will benefit them.

"The support of the town’s business community is crucial. The size, scale and success of it all depends on people getting involved.

"The festival is likely to attract thousands to the town from around the world."

Organisers are still looking for support and sponsorship for the festival and there is a range of sponsorship opportunities available.
