SIR, Thank goodness for David Griffiths (Worcester News, June 12).

What would we do without a voice of sanity to steer us away from ‘the capitalist monster’ and ‘brutal market’?

I think we all agree that the current supermarket dominance of the domestic food industry is too much.

Who wants those falling prices and great array of goods from across the globe, when we can have empty shelves like Zimbabwe and theformer Soviet Union?

What social bonding we couldrevive by waiting for hours in the queue for our bread ration!

Why stop at government control of food, though? Why so unambitious, David?

Why don’t we have a ‘democratic nationalisation’ of the car industry too? We could wait a few years each for our government-issued Trabant.

That’ll equalise things, will it not. If we can only get a few ‘thinking folks’ heads together, we could solve all this chaos and achieve equality of outcome for every single man, woman and child in this fair land.

What could possibly go wrong?

Mr Griffiths, lift us up from this capitalist swamp.

Hail the Revolution!
