NORTH Cotswolds Young Cricketers Club have secured the services of Rupert Bell as their new non-executive chairman after scouring Gloucestershire.

Bell is a sports broadcaster on Talksport Radio and an enthusiastic supporter of the county professional side.

President Shaun Williams put out an appeal in the Cotswold Journal last month amid doubts over the 13- year-old Blockley-based club’s future.

But Bell has stepped in to help youngsters of the north Cotswolds, from eight to 17, play competitive cricket. He plans to launch their first team for girls to run with the boys’ outfits who compete at various age groups in the Oxfordshire League.

At present, the nearest club offering girls’ cricket in the area is in Cheltenham or Staunton but a coach with county playing experience has already been lined up to bring cricket closer to home.
