BREDON Hill Middle School’s Zak Brown is off to Belgium next month after winning a competition with West Bromwich Albion Under 12s.

The year seven midfielder captained the team to victory in the Christmas Truce Tournament, beating Liverpool on penalties in the final at St George’s Park, Burton.

Albion saw off Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Leeds United before the 3-2 spot-kick success.

They will now represent England alongside defending champions Manchester United and teams from France, Germany and hosts Belgium in Ypres from December 1.

The nine-a-side event ran alongside teaching players about the World War I and children read out names of players who died in conflict, as well as laying wreaths by the pitch.

Title-chasing Evesham United overcame Painswick Youth 7-1 in Cheltenham Youth League Under 14s Division One.

Tom Leonard scored a first-half hat-trick with Ryan Reeves adding another. Painswick scored after a defensive mistake before Bradley Izod (2) and Johnathon Robinson completed the rout.
