THERE may be snow on the ground, freezing temperatures and still over two months until the start of the 2013 British Superstock 1000 Championship but preparations have already begun for Evesham-based Team JD Racing.

A new rider has signed for this year’s competition in the form of Cody Nally, who is an exciting 21-year-old talent from Athlone, Ireland, and highly regarded in the racing paddock as a star in the making.

Nally has been riding motorcycles since the age of 11 and started his racing career in 2005 when finishing fourth in the Aprilia Championship.

For the next two years, he competed in the Irish GP Clubmans Championship and, after impressive results, was invited to race in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in Spain, a series that recognises and develops up-andcoming talent.

From 2008 to 2011, Nally progressed through the Irish and British Superstock 600 Championships, scoring podium finishes, including race wins, as well as setting a new lap record at the Anglesey circuit.

In 2012, he faced his biggest challenge when moving up to the 1,000cc class in the British Superstock Championship but, with strong and consistent performances, his results showed he was capable of competing at the highest level.

JD Racing team manager Chris Jones was delighted when Nally agreed to ride for him in the 2013 season.

“I have been watching Cody for a few years and been impressed with his progress,”

said Jones.

“It’s a tough challenge this year, the list of entrants reads like a who’s who of motorcycle racing, including former British champions, the current Isle of Man TT record holder and international stars from Australia, South Africa and USA. But I believe we have a rider capable of achieving podium finishes and even race wins.”

Nally is already familiar with the Kawasaki ZX-10R machine he will be racing but to control a bike capable of speeds in excess of 170mph requires a great deal of strength, particularly in the upper body.

The rider said: “I am working hard on my fitness and determined to be ready, both physically and mentally, in time for the first round of the championship at Brands Hatch on April 5.”
