IT was business as usual at Broadway after the snow drifts disappeared.

Despite high winds and the threat of heavy rain, 40 determined ladies went out in teams of four to play their first Texas scramble of the year.

The handicaps were combined and then divided by 10 per cent to give an overall to be deducted from the team’s gross score.

First with nett 35.1 were Pam Hooper, Pat Righton, Sonia Ward and June Griffin, ahead of Julia Fortescue, Rachel Rigg and Nadine Simpkin, despite being one short, with 36.31.

The ladies now look forward to their winter league greensomes.

  • EVESHAM held a competition with the Chapman format for the first time.

Teams were made up of two players who tee off and then switch balls for their second shot.

They then select the better of the two locations and, until the ball is holed, play the one in an alternate shot format.

Thirty-two teams produced impressive scoring with only fractions separating the top places.

The overall winners with 60 were the pairing of ex-captain Colin Cleary and Tony Smith.

Long-time leaders from the morning session, Russ Leeming and Ian Maycock, finished third with 60.6 behind Chris Richings and Trevor Woodward (60.2).

The competition was the first in charge for new men’s captain Geoff Insall who rallied the troops in his prizegiving presentation.

His drive-in is set for Saturday, March 2.
