St Davids show girl power to be leaders

THE Cotswold League girls’ championship finalists are nearly decided with St Davids topping the table on 25 points.

They have three matches left and are ahead of Mickleton (20), Willersey (18) and Shipston (17). Blockley, Bredon Hill and Bourton-on-the- Water hold outside chances of qualifying for the final.

Bredon Hill beat St Catharines with a Yasmin Carpmale goal although Izzy Turner hit the post late on with a potential leveller.

Tredington overran a young Ilmington side 4-0.

Bredon Hill and Tredington drew 1-1. The next day, the top three teams from each pre-Christmas group faced the three they were yet to meet.

Willersey could not find their usual fluency against Blockley and lost 1-0 with Laura Wylie scoring.

Tredington’s hopes of upsetting Willersey were soon dashed when Frankie Woods’ shot was deflected past the keeper.

Flower replied straight away but Woods went on to complete a hat-trick despite Lauren Mulloy’s efforts in goal. Kyra Bostock added the final touch in a 4-1 win.

Tredington also suffered at the hands of Mickleton with Alexia Doughty (2) and Alice Reast the scorers in a 3-0 win.

Mickleton handed out the same treatment to Blockley.

In the south Warwickshire derby, Shipston overwhelmed Tredington but could not get past Mulloy until the final minute. Shipston also defeated Blockley 1-0.

Table-topping St Davids played Willersey, Shipston and Mickleton in a bid to consolidate their position.

They beat Mickleton 4-1 with Anna Wookey, Jodie Bandeira (2) and Chloe Whitworth on target.

Willersey took an early lead but Wookey and Bandeira (2) forced a 3-1 win.

Against Shipston, Saints grabbed a 1-0 victory.
