Stalemate for United extends super run
11:40am Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Sport
EVESHAM United made it five games unbeaten in Evo- Stik Southern League Division One South and West after a goalless stalemate at promotion-chasing Swindon Supermarine.
It is now just one defeat in eight for Paul West’s side who fully deserved a share of the spoils at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.
A heavy pitch that passed a late inspection made life difficult for both sides but Evesham adapted better in the first-half and looked the more dangerous in the final third of the field.
Robins skipper Matt Sysum twice went close from setpieces and top-scorer Marcus Palmer was unable to find the target after getting behind the Swindon back four.
Marine went close with the half drawing to an end when Josh Parsons struck the outside of a post.
After the restart, Swindon upped the tempo but found the Evesham defence, well marhsalled by Sysum, difficult to break down.
At the other end, good work by Leigh Downing ended with James Blake firing just over before Leon Kandekore’s header was gathered by Supermarine keeper Kent Kauppinen.
Swindon pressed for a late winner, forcing keeper Tom Cross to make saves from Parsons and Ashley Edenborough, while Sam Adkins was off target with a volley for the visitors.
Evesham: Cross, Wilson, Hyde, Sysum, Jackson, J Blake, Downing, Adkins, Palmer (Hicks 75), Brown (Kandekore 64), Gayton.
Subs not used: Clarke, Hardwick, A Blake.
Attendance: 143.
