STOW-on-the-Wold Rugby Club took no prisoners as they stormed to a 12-try 76-7 home thrashing of basement boys Risborough.

The Berks/Bucks and Oxon Premier Division leaders emphatically maintained their 100 per cent record with Chipping Norton’s 44-5 win at Harwell leaving them 13 points away.

Stow started strongly and a break by Craig Chapman was supported by Chris Powesland who scored the first try with Nick Cafearo converting.

The second was a cracker as the ball went through several hands with Richard Hugget providing Hugo Griffiths with the converted score.

Stow fumbled in their own 22 which led to a converted reply from Risborough. However, from the restart, a clearance was charged down by James Holmes who touched down under the posts with Cafearo adding the extras.

The bonus-point try came from Alex Kelly who ran in from distance although the conversion was missed.

Stow kept possession and from several phases the ball went down the line for Tom Davies’ unconverted try in the corner.

The final effort of the half was started by Chapman and the ball came back for him to touch down with Cafearo making the kick.

Stow did not let up in the second period and great inter-play saw second row Powesland race in from distance with Cafearo converting. Holmes broke down the right and scored a converted try before Kelly offloaded to Cafearo who outpaced the defence to touch down in the corner.

Then Stow’s forwards drove upfield and the ball went wide for Holmes to score in the corner.

Cafearo converted and also added the extras when Powesland grabbed his third after a great break from Davies.

The final play saw Davies beat two defenders to go over in the corner with Cafearo missing the conversion.
