Cup hero Smith on song again

MATT Smith added another goal to his FA Cup collection but could not stop Oldham Athletic’s dream run coming to an end.

The League One Latics were beaten 3-1 by Premier League side Everton in the fifth-round replay at Goodison Park live on television.

Kevin Mirallas, Leighton Baines and Leon Osman put the Toffees 3-0 ahead before 23-year-old Smith headed a consolation strike after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The former Littleton striker and Evesham United junior, who scored at Boundary Park to set up the replay and bagged a brace to knock out Liverpool in the previous round, said: “It’s disappointing as it’s been a good FA Cup run for the club.

“We played very well and are not going to go up against stronger opposition all season so we can take some credit from the performance.”
