EVESHAM released their season’s frustrations on basement boys Aston University with a stunning 17-1 thrashing.

After being hammered 10-0 the previous weekend at Newtown, second-from-bottom Evesham went on their own goal rampage in ENERG Men’s League West Midlands Division Two.

They started brightly with midfielders Mark Dufty, Matt Grumball and Marcus Humpston taking early control.

An effort was disallowed for an infringement before a good move resulted in Paul Martin scoring from an acute angle. The opener was swiftly followed by Humpston’s powerful shot flying in past the Aston keeper.

Evesham broke on the flanks with Martin Husbands and Graham Heydon escaping on the right and David Trevorrow calmly dispatching the third goal.

Confident Evesham played attractive, commanding hockey with Scott Styles providing excellent passes and their relentless charge continued with goals from Martin and Humpston.

Jamie Powell, Ian Hartwell and Sam Thomson in defence were rarely troubled as Evesham went into half-time 9-0 up. Leigh Robinson and Dufty bagged a brace each in the second period.

A brief concentration lapse led to a consolation but this was only responded to by further goals from Thomson and Martin.

Martin finished the game with six and Humpston five.

Evesham seconds recorded a fine 3-2 victory over highflying Barlaston.

Good defending from Gary Trevorrow, Rich Fear and Paul Knibbs denied the visitors an opener in a strong start. Evesham improved but were unable to find any space in the opposing ‘D’ in a goalless first-half.

After the break, they went ahead when captain Ashley Padfield converted a penalty corner with a drag flick into the top corner.

But Evesham became sloppy and a goalmouth scramble led to an equaliser.

Midfielders Laurie Icke, Xander Jacques and Matt Osborne then helped present Padfield with a second from a corner with another drag flick.

Keeper James Key saved well but Barlaston levelled from the rebound only for match-winner Padfield to seal his hat-trick with another clinical drag flick from a late penalty corner.

Evesham Badgers suffered a frustrating 2-0 defeat at home to Droitwich.

Meg Betteridge, Lucy Trevorrow and Charlotte Ricketts defended well before Evesham got a foothold without producing any meaningful shots.

They were restricted to pacy counter-attacks in the second period through the likes of Scott Ricketts, Icke, Hannah Dufty and Marc Luther Thomas.

The hosts held firm until a collapse in the final 10 minutes when Droitwich scored twice.
