St Davids lead the table ahead of final showdown
7:00pm Saturday 2nd March 2013 in Sport
ST Davids will meet Willersey and possibly Shipston in the Cotswold League girls’ championship finals next Tuesday.
Chipping Campden School, whose pupils are too old to participate in the trophy showdown, saw St Davids move above them to top the table after they bagged six points from the final two games.
Willersey just managed third spot but were only one point ahead of Shipston who have also been invited to finals night for primary schools.
Chloe Whitworth opened the scoring for St Davids against Bredon Hill followed by a fine brace from Anna Wookey in a 3-0 win.
A young Ilmington side forced St Davids goalkeeper Lucy Gould into early action before two goals apiece from Whitworth and Wookey at the other end despite the efforts of Anna Whittaker in goal.
Shipston’s final hopes suffered a blow as they started a player short against St Catharines after problems on the way to the venue.
However, with their topscorer missing, Freya Robinson and Faye Ellery took over the duties in a 2-0 win.
Dormer House were dispatched in similar fashion with Robinson and Ellery again scoring.
Shipston needed a draw to reach a play-off and a win to guarantee the final but lost 3-2 to in-form Bourton-onthe- Water.
Robinson scored twice but the goals arrived either side of an Isabel Honour hattrick.
The other matches decided final placings in the lower half of the table and Blockley climbed to sixth place with two successive wins.
A Laura Willey goal was enough to beat Bredon Hill and Georgia Daniells scored twice in a 2-0 win over Ilmington.
Bredon Hill moved up the table with a 2-0 victory over Dormer House through a Florence Ikpene double.
Bourton and Bredon Hill fought out a 0-0 draw before the former team joined Tredington on 16 points with Honour grabbing another hat-trick, this time against Ilmington.
The previous week, St Davids beat bottom-ranked St James 3-1 through Wookey and Whitworth (2) with Charlotte Podger replying.
Willersey opened with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Dormer House thanks to Frankie Wood who then scored late on in a 1-0 success over St Catherines.
In a dead-rubber, Mickleton drew 3-3 with Bourton.
Alice Reast, Alexia Doughty and Demi Coyne scored with Honour grabbing a treble in reply.
Bourton then spoilt Willersey’s final party with a 3-1 success after yet another Honour hat-trick with Wood countering.
Final points: St Davids 34, Chipping Campden School 32, Willersey 24, Shipston 23, Mickleton 21, Blockley 21, Tredington 16, Bourton-on-the-Water 16, Bredon Hill 13, St Catharines 6, Dormer House 6, Ilmington 6, St James 2.
