IT was all change at Craycombe Links as new Evesham club captain Geoff Insall started the season with his drive-in in glorious sunshine.

Following the club tradition, the members assembled down the first fairway estimating where Insall would hit his drives with the prizes won by John Machin and Richard Cross.

The drive-in was followed by a Monte Carlo Am-Am competition where stableford points were multiplied.

Trevor Woodward, Phil Bachelor and the in-form father-and-son pairing of Chris and Dan Richings amassed 125 points to win.

Second were Tony Fawcett, Graham Hughes, Machin and Andy Budnik with 101 ahead of Stu Ridley, Mike Callaghan, Martin Bird and new vicecaptain Mike Abraham with 100.

Insall is raising funds to buy a defibrillator for the club and started by raffling the captain's parking place.

It raised £450 and was won by Machin. Insall made the winter league semi-finals with Phil Wheeler, narrowly beating Tony Smith and Barrie Saggers on the final hole. Last year’s captain Colin Cleary and Darren Nightingale beat Lewis and Scott Ridley (2&1), while Chris Richings and Bachelor beat Kevin Stewart and Peter Wragg (5&4) and Ben Thompson and Will James beat Merv Nedic and Russ Leeming 4 &3.

On Sunday, March 17, Cleary and Nightingale will play Bachelor and Chris Richings with James and Thompson facing Insall and Wheeler.
