St Davids win finals

ST Davids have set their sights on the National Youth Championships at Gloucester on July 7 after winning the Cotswold League Girls'

Championship finals.

They finished well clear of their rivals during the qualifiers, defeating everyone except the over-aged players of Chipping Campden School who could not make the showdown.

At the finals between three teams, previous results counted and St Davids opened with a 4-0 victory over a younger Willersey side to triumph 7-1 on aggregate.

Anna Wookey, Jodie Bandeira (2) and Chloe Whitworth all scored in the first 10 minutes.

Willersey had a 2-0 advantage over Shipston who battled back to even the scores 3-3 on aggregate.

Kyra Bostock bagged Willersey's crucial goal with Faye Ellery, Katie Plank and Catherine Harris on target for Shipston.

Shipston needed a victory against St Davids to take the title but were already a goal down from their previous meeting.

A Wookey double forced St Davids further ahead and, despite Ellery's consolation past impressive keeper Lucy Gould, Bandeira secured a 4- 1 aggregate win.

St James play Shipston for the 'B' team title this evening after six games completed the qualifying section.

Jake Faulkner scored a hattrick and Jacob Fairbourne added another in a 4-0 success for Shipston over Dormer House.

St Davids proved to be tougher opponents but Fairbourne and Will Baxter scored the goals needed for a 2-0 Shipston victory.

Mickleton also suffered with braces from Faulkner and Fairbourne before Will Hunt completed a 5-0 triumph.

St James needed to win every match to be sure of reaching the final for the second successive year.

Ilmington were their main rivals but succumbed to a goal each from Alfie Aubrey and Josh Hurdiss.

Tredington were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline against St James thanks to Jamie Tolley (2) and an own goal.

The crunch match between St James and table-toppers Shipston, which will be repeated in the final, ended 1-0 to the former with Aubrey netting late on.

Final table: Shipston 21 points, St James 21, Chipping Campden School 21, Ilmington 13, Dormer House 9, Tredington 7, Temple Guiting 7, St Davids 2, Mickleton 1. St James and Ebrington face Ilmington in the 'A' team final next Tuesday.
