DRAKES Broughton’s John Leahey bagged a British Veterans’ Championships bronze medal in Gloucester.

Ranked 13th after the poules of the 53-strong men’s epee event, the 44-year-old knocked out fourth seed Jonathan Stanbury 10-4 in the round of 16 and last year’s runner-up Rob Flatt 10-4 in the quarter-finals.

In the semis, he came up against former British champion Chris Howser and lost 10-4 to collect the bronze.
