Price is right for Town to take win
1:20pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Sport
GARRY Price hit an injurytime winner to earn Pershore Town a 3-2 victory over Pilkington XXX in the Midland Combination Premier Division.
The Winstanley & Co King George V Stadium side bagged their first win of the season after taking a deserved 10th-minute lead when Mark Owen curled the ball into the top corner.
Owen doubled the lead 15 minutes later, wrong-footing the goalkeeper after a good turn.
Despite Pershore dominating the first-half, Pilkington netted just before half-time after a good move and finish by Craig Oldfield.
The visitors piled on the pressure in the second period with the benefit of a strong wind and Alex Byatt headed the equaliser from a corner with 15 minutes remaining.
But Price’s close-range winner ensured Pershore took the points ahead of Saturday’s trip to Studley (3pm) and a home match with Alvis next Tuesday (7.45pm).
- Pershore Town staged the Pershore Hospital Charity Cup presentation evening.
Cheques were presented to Mencap, the County Air Ambulance, South Worcestershire Lifesaving and Lifeguard Club and Pershore Volunteer Centre as well as a donation to the hosts.
Chairman Brian Collett thanked Judy Gardner of Eckington Manor Cookery School, Ken Tallis of Abbey Butchers and Peter Osbourne of Ferryfast Produce for their support.
The cups raised £1,100 from the entrance fees and raffles.
