JUST as the weather cools down, the Gloucestershire Road Race Series is hotting up.
The hilly Angels 10k, which was the eighth contest of 12, saw a band of Bourton Roadrunners head to Ashleworth, near Gloucester, in search of points.
Bourton’s work in training paid off and Cal Winwood was third in 34 minutes 28 seconds with Mike Smith fourth and first men’s veteran over 45 in 34.59.
Dennis Walmsley was seventh and first veteran over 50 in 37.10, while Ewen Smith was 10th in 37.49 and Darren Long 11th and first over 40 in 38.20.
Nigel Frith managed 40.53 and Claire Harrison was just pipped into fourth place in the women’s race but was first over 35 in 44.03.
John Gibson clocked 44.05, Rob Humphris 44.54, Ali Lane 45.15 (first women’s over 55), Steph Holton 46.00 (first over 45), Graham Lane 46.56, Susan Hunt 49.35, Chris Dry 49.39, Dave Pyne 49.53, Norm Lane 50.08 and Lynn Hudson 54.48.
Bourton’s Steve Edwards has completed 599 official marathons, running Wolverhampton in his fastest time for nearly a year of a time of three hours 10 minutes 37 seconds.
Edwards was also fourth at the Highland Perthshire event in 3.11.49 and now only the tough Great Langdale Marathon on September 21 stands in the way of his target of 600.
