Carolians brushed aside in cup clash

EVESHAM progressed into the Under 18s National Colts Cup second round with a fine 40-7 win at Kidderminster Carolians.
They dominated the firsthalf with four unanswered tries through player-of-thematch Josh Perry (2) from the right wing, Mike Harris and Alex Stoddart.
Harris converted three to make it 26-0 at half-time before further tries from Ash Icke and Wilf Watson with Ash Charlton adding the extras both times.
Evesham visit Willenhall in the next stage on October 20.
The under eights, nines and 10s all headed to the Shipston mini-festival with the younger age group providing three teams.
Sarah Lee, Ollie Dishart, Ollie Appleby and Harry Wycherley all shone with the latter scoring 12 tries.
The firsts lost 8-5 to Stow and 8-6 to Claverdon who they also drew with 8-8. The seconds beat Stow 7-6 but also lost 6-3 and went down 9-4 to Shipston, while the thirds fell 8-6 to Claverdon twice and 7-2 to Stow.
For the under nines, Tigers beat Claverdon 7-4, drew 6-6 with Stow and lost 7-4 to Shipston.
Lions beat Stow 4-3, drew 3-3 with Claverdon and lost 6-3 and 7-4 to Shipston. Laurie Checkley scored seven tries and Tommy Boorman five.
The under 10s saw the Blues beat Shipston 9-0 and 8-5 and drew 2-2 with Claverdon. Will Gilderson was among the tries.
The Maroons beat Shipston 6-0 and lost 3-2 before going down 4-1 to Claverdon.
- Pershore were knocked out of the North Midlands Shield quarter-finals by a 38- 14 home loss to higherranked Stourbridge Lions.
Lions brought a high level of physicality but that did not stop Martin Hope, Kris Bassett and James Martin putting in big tackles of their own as well as making impressive inroads.
The main difference was the visitors’ ability to take advantage of defensive holes with three of the six tries coming from breaks in their own half.
Pershore scored tries either side of half-time through Steve Holmes and Stef Ellis.
They return to Midlands Three West (South) action on Saturday at Old Yardleians (3pm).
