THE Unicorn Vaulting Group from Stow-on-the-Wold made a stunning impression at their first competition when they entered the British Championships.

The Walk Trio team were third in their class at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Slapton, Buckinghamshire, thanks to Elle Sheppard, nine, Lois Walker, 13, and Gemma Long, 17.

But the second team did even better, claiming the pre-novice and freestyle class after winning the first round to qualify for the second day.

Isadora Barefield, 16, Luke Smith, 13, Hannah Bird, eight, Mathilda Darling, 15, Teegan Wateridge, 14 and Harriett Wiggins, 11, lined up.

The sport has been described as gymnastics and dance on horseback.

Unicorn were set up in June 2012 by past champion Rebecca Townsend, of Jive Ponys, along with Katherine Townsend and Julie Newell.

The group meet on Wednesdays at the Unicorn Equestrian Centre, Stow, from 5.30pm until 7pm or 7pm until 8.30pm.
