Nick's boot secures win
6:20pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Sport
STOW Rugby Club recorded their second Southern Counties North victory of the season with a commanding 75-3 destruction of Reading Abbey.
Fly-half Nick Cafearo was the star with 40 points and a 100 per cent strike rate with the boot.
Although the visitors started better and kicked an early penalty to go three points up, Stow proceeded to put in a faultless performance.
The hosts took control in every department, supplying plenty of possession for the back- line to exploit.
James Holmes opened the scoring when he arrived in support to touch down after the ball had been held up short of the line.
Cafearo converted, slotted a penalty and converted a try of his own. He kicked two further penalties and scored another try, which he converted.
Stow led 30-3 at the break with the visitors struggling to compete.
The second-half saw no let-up and within 10 minutes Stow had scored two more tries. Turnover ball saw Chris Powesland run in from 40 metres with Cafearo adding the conversion.
A break then saw the ball end up on the wing and Bradley Wrench made ground before offloading to Alex Kelley to score. Cafearo converted. Kelley added his second after some good handling and support play, with Cafearo converting.
The hosts regained their hold on the game and, after several phases of play, Mat Green scored with Cafearo on target with the conversion.
Cafearo then added a longrange penalty and there was still time for Holmes to run in two more tries after the Abbey defence had all but disappeared.
Cafearo slotted both kicks to take his points tally for the day to 40 and complete a comprehensive victory.
Stow travel to Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday (3pm).
