Whitehouse is on target as Bret get draw
8:50am Friday 18th October 2013 in Sport
BRETFORTON hit back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against City of Bath and move one point clear at the top of the West Clubs Women’s League Premier Division 2A.
Although the hosts started brightly, they fell behind to a scrappy goal and, despite being awarded several short corners, could not convert their pressure into goals.
A save from keeper Vicky Watkins denied Bath a second but the visitors doubled their advantage at the start of the second-half.
Soon, however, Bretforton’s pressure told when a pass from Karen Fynn found Deb Slatter in a crowded ‘D’ and she calmly halved the deficit.
This gave the Vale girls a lift and they equalised when Tess Lewinton raced into the ‘D’ and unselfishly slipped the ball to Hayley Whitehouse who pushed the ball past the advancing keeper.
Bretforton’s team effort was epitomised by player-of-thematch Terri Brown.
Bretforton seconds remain unbeaten after a commanding 8-1 victory at Newent thirds, featuring four goals from Gilly Wright.
Ness Dufty opened the scoring and Wright got her first before Newent fired home against the run of play from a short corner.
Two short corners in succession after the break saw Wright complete her hat-trick, before strikes from Lucy Cole, Wright, Alice Cook and Dufty wrapped up the points.
- Badsey lost 3-1 at Bromsgrove in Worcestershire League Division One.
The home side started stronger and gave the Badsey defence problems but player-of-the-match Rachel Curtis made some good saves.
Once they had settled down, the visitors dug in and cleared their lines through Karen Moore and Rachel Sadler, allowing the midfield to build a platform for the attacking trio of Karen Robinson, Lynne Ellarby and Fi Jordan.
Bromsgrove, however, made their pressure tell by taking the lead before halftime and they added two more goals after the break.
Badsey fought back and reduced the deficit through Robinson.
- Pershore Ladies recorded a 5-1 victory over Stourport in Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.
Emma Gardener and Kate Adams grabbed two goals each, while there was one on her home debut from Chloe Power. Player-of-the-match was Nikki Passmore.
